Scrounging: What's for Dinner

School is back in session and all of a sudden we are in the throes of a very busy September. The Spouse is making a movie, with The Child and I playing the leads. We will be shooting over the next two weekends. (The weekend following, fyi, is my big huge blowout 50th birthday bash; which is awesome). Meanwhile, there are school functions and general hooha which have shaped this week into something of a scroungefest.

The Spouse tells the story that as he and his sibs got older, his mom (for many reasons which he knew nothing of at the time) began to lose interest in many homemaking activites, especially making dinner. She instituted Scrounge Night, as in, "Hey, Mom, what's for dinner?" "I don't know, scrounge around". He remembers it with some fondness. It's really rather sad. But I do not judge my MIL, may she rest in peace. Sometimes there's a little scrounge in all of us.

What's for Dinner
September 7-September 13

Friday
The Child is babysitting. You know what that means: 'picy food!

Chicken Enchilladas
Spanish Rice
Refried Beans

Saturday
NOTHING!
(The Spouse is going to a birthday party and The Child and I are going to an overdue wake for The Neighbor's Dog.

Sunday
We'll be shooting the movie and there will be craft services. Dinner will be light.

Shrimp Cocktail
Crusty Bread

Monday
Meatloaf
Steamed Green Beans with Almonds
Fauxtatoes

Tuesday
The Parent Board is having a pot luck to plan for a school meeting. The Spouse decided that he and The Child will be scrounging.

Wednesday
Curriculum Night at school. Dinner is provided. The Spouse will be staying home. He will scrounge.

Thursday
Chicken and Biscuits

Yes. Chicken appears at least twice in the menu this week and given that there's a big bag of breasts in the freezer, it may manifest on some of the scrounge nights as well. This is a week where the convenience of having staples on hand trumps high level planning. Next week I may be more creative.

Yum. Meatloaf. Will there be bacon wrapping said meatloaf?

Even more yummy...leftover meatloaf sandwiches the next day. Fantastic!

I don't do bacon on my meatloaf, SCG, but I couldn't agree more about the power of leftover meatloaf. In fact, I try to make sure people aren't too hungry on meatloaf night, just to make sure there ARE leftovers!

Awright, I have to ask: What are "fauxtatoes"?
